Case Study: Apex Transit & Logistics

Apex Transit Streamlines Fuel Management and Boosts Security with QuikQ’s SmartQ RFID

Apex Transit & Logistics has built a reputation for reliability and customer focus since its inception in 2012. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Apex is a small, family-owned company operated and managed by a husband-and-wife team, Stan and Marina. Together, they bring extensive experience and a wealth of knowledge to their clients and the logistics industry.

Challenge

Before partnering with QuikQ, Apex faced several challenges related to fuel management and security. As a growing trucking company with a fleet on the rise, Apex relied heavily on traditional fuel card systems, which presented a range of inefficiencies. Managing fuel cards became increasingly time-consuming and tedious, with administrative staff needing to keep close track of each card's usage.

Additionally, the risk of lost or stolen fuel cards posed a potential threat to Apex’s fuel security, increasing the possibility of unauthorized fuel transactions. With its fleet frequently on the road, Apex needed a solution that would streamline fuel management, reduce the risk of fraud, and simplify operations for both drivers and administrative staff.

Solution

QuikQ’s SmartQ RFID technology provided the ideal solution to Apex’s fuel management issues. The cardless RFID system offered an innovative way to authenticate trucks directly at the pump without the need for physical fuel cards. SmartQ RFID allows Apex’s fleet to fuel up more efficiently, reducing the administrative burden and providing an added layer of security. The system’s passive, asset-based RFID tags, installed in Apex’s trucks, authenticate each truck at the fuel pump, ensuring that only authorized trucks can fuel up.

Marina Ivanov, Apex’s operations manager, noted that the QuikQ team’s customer service played a crucial role in the successful adoption of the technology. The team at QuikQ was readily available to answer questions, troubleshoot any issues, and guide Apex through the transition, making the integration process seamless.

“What I truly appreciate about QuikQ is their commitment to customer service, especially in being reachable at any hour for prompt responses to any issues. That level of responsiveness is extremely valuable in our industry, and it’s a quality I prioritize highly,” said Ivanov.

Results

Since implementing SmartQ RFID, Apex has experienced significant improvements in fuel management, security, and overall operational efficiency.

The system’s cardless functionality eliminated the need for drivers to carry and manage fuel cards, reducing the administrative burden on both drivers and the back office. Additionally, the tamper-proof RFID tags have greatly minimized the risk of fuel fraud, giving Apex added peace of mind that their fueling transactions are secure.

Alex Kornivskiy, Apex’s accounting manager, emphasized how much the SmartQ RFID system has streamlined his administrative tasks.

“Before, managing fuel cards and tracking usage was time-consuming and tedious. Now, with RFID, everything is automated, and I can easily pull reports without worrying about discrepancies or lost cards. It’s made my life much easier and allows me to focus on other priorities,” said Kornivskiy.

The SmartQ RFID system has not only simplified fueling operations but has also enhanced the driver experience. Drivers appreciate the convenience of being able to pull up to the pump, have their truck automatically authenticated, and start fueling without needing to manage a physical card. As Apex continues to expand its fleet, the company is confident that QuikQ’s technology will support its growth while maintaining secure and efficient fueling operations.
